Naas medical Centre first in Ireland with Revolutionary New Testing System
Thursday, October 14th, 2004
A Naas based medical centre is the first in the country to introduce a revolutionary new blood analysis system to Ireland. The Irish Centre of Integrated Medicine on Pacelli Road has been swamped with queries ever since it brought in the new technology in August. Felipe Reitz, biologist and head of advanced microscopy research at ICIM, has had such a level of success with the new system that he is now in discussion with top names in the bloodstock industry with a view to utilising his expertise on thoroughbred racehorses.
Using a high definition microscope, state of the art computer technology and just one drop of blood, Felipe can determine how healthy or unhealthy the patient’s blood sample is. The analysis is invaluable in early detection of serious health conditions such as cancer and heart conditions. “There are only five of these microscopes in the world,” explained Felipe. “There are others who can do the test but they can’t get the images as clear or magnified as this piece of equipment. “We have met with horse trainers and are drawing up protocols for that. This is not an alternative test at all. It is very conventional and is invaluable to scientists for research.”
Felipe has already had consultations with patients from all over Ireland, many referred to him by their GP or consultant, and he is liaising closely with the medical sector. The test can detect bacteria, fungi and chemicals in the blood which, if left undetected, can cause silent harm. With a single drop of blood (taken from the forefinger), the microscope and monitor the patient can see how various elements - red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma - interact live.
As a live blood sample is used the patient can actually see the cells moving across the screen, unlike standard hospital tests which use dead blood cells. “Not only can you measure a patient’s progress but they can actually see it on screen for themselves which is pretty unique,” said Felipe of the analysis, which is already a firm favourite with celebrities wise to the concept of health and beauty from the inside out.
“I’ve already done the test on 15 nurses from Naas Hospital. Anyone interested in haematology is just fascinated to see this on screen.” Digestive disorders, anaemia, heavy metal toxicity, chemical toxicity, dehydration, and predisposition to degenerative conditions are just some examples of illnesses that are detected in the blood. A comprehensive analysis is made and catalogued. A report is then submitted to the patient’s doctor or health professional to help in the diagnostic process.
