Breaking the bonds of modern medicine

By Roisin Carroll.

Felipe Reitz, managing director of the Integrated Medical Centre is working hard to bridge the gap between conventional and alternative medical practice.

The Irish Centre of Integrated Medicine, on first appearance is exactly what I expected.  Cool quiet white rooms, a well-stocked exotic fish tank humming in the background; rich dark wooden fixtures complement the crisp design of the centre.

The waiting room is comfortable but empty, a far cry from the local GP’s office.  I half expected one of Ireland’s starlets to peek around the corner betrayed by the soft swish of a heavy snow-white dressing gown.

Blood Offers a Window to your Health

By Neil Callanan

Unless you are bleeding, you probably never think about your blood. Adults have around five litres of blood, made up of plasma, white cells, red cells and platelets. Blood, and its health, can be a useful indicator of your general health.

A standard blood test involves taking blood with a syringe and them analysing the dead blood cells. The Irish Centre of Integrated Medicine in Naas, Co. Kildare, analyses a live sample in front of the patient. A blood sample is taken from a pinprick on your finger. The sample is viewed through a microscope and illuminated using ultra-dark-field. This allows the blood to be viewed in its living state. On the monitor, you can clearly see the red blood cells turn a purplish-blue colour with a bright white border.

White blood cells, and their comparative health, are clearly visible. By-products of the bagel I had eaten a couple of hours previously zoomed around the screen. (more…)

Jackie Fitzgerald (health writer)

When it comes to good health, taking responsibility for ourselves is vital, and there are times when we all have niggling concerns about the overall state of our body, yet do little or nothing to allay our fears and get ourselves checked out.

If you feel that the time has come for more reassurance and attention than your usual 10-minute check-up in a busy GP’s clinic, then a trip to the Irish Centre of Integrated Medicine in Naas could be just what you need.

With state-of-the art technology, and everything backed up by scientific research, the centre is run by biologist and acupuncturist Felipe Reitz, his wife, homeopath Jean FitzGerald, and Dr Harald Gaier, a Harley Street doctor who practises there twice a week.

The centre adopts a conventional approach, with a medical adviser on hand to take your full health history, and a variety of treatments and pre-diagnostic tools, ranging from general health screening to stomach and breast cancer screening to the high-resolution Nutritional Blood Analysis which can be used to detect dietary abnormalities, maldigestion, leaky gut syndrome or low immune status, for example. Grainne Kelly was grey by the age of 28, until a simple blood test changed her life
Roisin Williams

Grainne Kelly looked at herself in the mirror and couldn’t believe what she saw. At just 28 years old her hair was grey and there were dark circles under tired eyes.

The petite brunettre from Cabra West. Dublin says: “I think I always lacked energy. I just felt extremely tired all the time.”

It got to the stage that it stopped her from socialising and interacting with people.

“I had just enough energy to hold down a job, but that was it. There was no energy left for anything else.”

When her hair turned completely white Grainne was forced to dye it, and lost confidence in her appearance.

She says: “I started to do some research of my own on nutrition because I felt that was where my problem lay. (more…)
